AI Health-Tech Startup Heidi Secures $340 Million at $900 Million Valuation

Summary
Heidi, an AI startup that automates clinical notes for doctors, has raised $340 million in a Series C round, bringing its valuation to $900 million. The funding, led by Blackbird Ventures and General Catalyst, will fuel international expansion and product development.
Heidi, an Australian artificial intelligence startup that helps doctors automate administrative tasks, has raised $340 million in a new funding round, nearly doubling its valuation to $900 million. The deal underscores strong investor demand for AI tools aimed at improving productivity in the healthcare sector, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Funding Details
The Series C round was led by existing investor Blackbird Ventures and consists of two distinct parts:
- $100 million in a traditional equity round.
- $240 million from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund, a debt-like financing instrument.
This non-dilutive financing from General Catalyst will fund Heidi's sales and marketing costs. In return, the firm will receive a portion of the revenue generated from that spending, up to an agreed-upon cap, without taking an equity stake in the startup.
Growth and Expansion Plans
AdHeidi has demonstrated significant traction, with its platform having been used for over 175 million patient visits across 110 languages. The company's annual recurring revenue (ARR) surged to $50 million in April, a dramatic increase from just $1 million two years prior. This new capital injection brings Heidi's total funds raised to more than $430 million.
In an interview with Bloomberg, co-founder and CEO Thomas Kelly said the funds will be used to accelerate growth. The company plans to expand in Asia and the Middle East, add more advanced AI features, and hire as many as 150 new staff over the next year to supplement its current team of nearly 600.
Market Context
The substantial funding round for Heidi is part of a broader trend of investment in AI-powered healthcare technology. Investors are increasingly backing startups that promise to alleviate the administrative burden on medical professionals and enhance efficiency within large healthcare systems. The sector has seen other significant raises recently, including Forus's $150 million and Latent's $80 million rounds earlier this year, signaling a robust market for AI solutions in healthcare.
