The decline was primarily driven by weakness in the Telecoms, Consumer Services, and Real Estate sectors, according to market data. On an individual stock basis, technology investment firm Prosus (AS:PRX) was the worst performer of the session, with its shares falling 4.82%.
Payments company Adyen NV (AS:ADYEN) also experienced a significant drop, declining 4.70%. Supermarket operator Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV (AS:AD) was another notable loser, ending the day down 2.62%.
Bright Spots and Market Breadth
Despite the overall index decline, several major companies posted gains. Investment holding company Exor NV (AS:EXOR) was the session's top performer, rising 1.96%. It was followed by data analytics firm Relx PLC (AS:REL), which added 1.95%, and energy giant Shell PLC (AS:SHEL), which climbed 1.66%.
AdOverall market sentiment on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange was negative. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 49 to 42, while 15 stocks closed unchanged.
Broader Market Indicators
In the commodities market, energy prices saw a notable increase. Brent oil for November delivery rose 3.49% to hit $102.71 a barrel, while U.S. Crude oil futures gained 2.30%. In contrast, gold futures fell 1.32%.
The AEX Volatility index, a measure of the market's expectation of future price swings, was unchanged at 21.09. In currency markets, the euro weakened against the U.S. dollar, with the EUR/USD pair down 0.49%.
