AEX Gains 0.50% to Close Week Higher, Led by Universal Music and Financials

The Dutch benchmark AEX index closed 0.50% higher on Friday, capping the week with gains driven by strength in the consumer goods, financials, and oil & gas sectors, according to closing data from the Amsterdam exchange.
Market Drivers and Stock Performance
Leading the advance on the AEX was Universal Music Group NV, which surged 4.17% to end the session at €14.61. Other notable performers included semiconductor equipment manufacturer BE Semiconductor Industries NV, rising 2.80%, and ABN AMRO Group NV, which gained 2.06% to close at €43.52, a new all-time high for the stock.
On the downside, specialty chemicals distributor IMCD NV was the session's worst performer, falling 1.28%. It was followed by DSM Firmenich AG, which declined 1.18%, and brewing company Heineken, which shed 1.07%.
Mixed Breadth and Volatility
AdDespite the index's advance, market breadth was negative. Data from the Amsterdam Stock Exchange showed 51 stocks fell while 45 advanced, with 8 ending the day unchanged. This suggests the gains were concentrated in a number of larger-cap names rather than being a broad-based market rally.
The AEX Volatility index, a key measure of implied volatility in the options market, was unchanged at 21.09, indicating stable investor expectations for near-term price swings.
Commodities and Currencies
In the broader commodities market, oil prices retreated. Crude oil for October delivery fell 2.49% to $99.93 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract declined 2.12% to $105.35 a barrel. Meanwhile, currency markets were quiet, with the EUR/USD and EUR/GBP pairs showing minimal change.
