In contrast, the mega-cap banking sector experienced broad declines. Citigroup (C) shares fell 3.39%, while its peers also faced headwinds. Bank of America (BAC) dropped 2.49% and Wells Fargo (WFC) slipped 1.7%. Technology hardware giant Dell Inc. (DELL) also declined by 1.4%.

Liquidia Technologies (LQDA) also saw a significant drop of 12.99%. The move followed a stock rating downgrade from investment firm Raymond James, which cited a recent patent ruling as the reason for its revised outlook, according to a report from Investing.com.
