Turkish Stocks Fall to One-Month Low as BIST 100 Drops 1.36%

Summary
Turkey's benchmark BIST 100 index closed down 1.36% on Wednesday, hitting a new one-month low amid a broad sell-off led by the banking, electricity, and IT sectors.
Turkish equities declined on Wednesday, with the benchmark BIST 100 index falling 1.36% to close at a new one-month low. The sell-off was driven by widespread losses across key sectors, including banking, electricity, and information technology, according to market data from the close in Istanbul.
Broad-Based Sell-Off
The decline reflected broad negative sentiment across the Istanbul Stock Exchange. Market breadth was overwhelmingly negative, with falling stocks outnumbering advancing ones by a ratio of nearly five to one.
At the close of trade, 521 stocks had declined, while only 105 advanced and 6 ended the session unchanged. The losses in the banking, electricity, and IT sectors were the primary drivers behind the benchmark index's slide.
Key Stock Movers
Several individual companies experienced significant price drops, weighing heavily on the market. The day's worst-performing stocks on the BIST 100 included:
Ad- Sekerbank TAS (IS:SKBNK), which plunged 9.96%.
- Aksa Enerji Uretim AS (IS:AKSEN), which fell 9.40%.
- Sarkuysan Elektrolitik Bakir Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (IS:SARKY), down 6.30%.
In contrast, a few firms managed to post strong gains against the market trend. Pasifik Eurasia Lojistik Dis Ticaret AS (IS:PASEU) was the top performer, surging 9.45%, while automaker Tofas Turk Otomobil Fabrikasi AS (IS:TOASO) added 2.84%.
Currency and Commodity Markets
In foreign exchange markets, the Turkish Lira saw minimal movement against the U.S. dollar, with the USD/TRY pair ticking up 0.05% to 47.40. Meanwhile, commodity prices were volatile, with crude oil futures rising sharply by nearly 7%.
In precious metals, Gold Futures for August delivery moved in the opposite direction, declining 0.75% to trade at $4,008.25 a troy ounce. The US Dollar Index Futures, a measure of the dollar's strength against a basket of currencies, was slightly higher, up 0.04%.
