Background

Streamex Corp. (NASDAQ: STEX) announced its tokenized, yield-bearing gold security is now accessible through traditional brokerage accounts, a move aimed at bridging the gap between digital assets and mainstream investment channels. The development, announced on June 29, allows accredited investors to gain exposure to digital gold without needing specialized crypto wallets or blockchain expertise.

A Three-Way Collaboration

The offering is the result of a partnership between three distinct financial entities. Streamex issues the gold-backed security, $GLDY, while distribution is handled by Siebert Financial, a FINRA-member broker that oversees approximately $20 billion in client assets. Custody of the digital asset is managed by tZERO, a regulated platform for digital securities.

This structure enables Siebert's brokers to offer the tokenized gold product to eligible clients alongside conventional stocks and bonds. It marks the latest step in Streamex's strategy to provide new forms of access to the $13 trillion global gold market.

Product Features and Market Access

The $GLDY security offers features not typically found in traditional gold investments like physical bullion or exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to Streamex, the key features include:

  • Yield Generation: The security pays a variable yield of up to 3.5% per year, distributed monthly. The yield is paid in additional gold, compounding the holder's position over time. This return is generated by lending the underlying physical gold to commercial users like jewelers and refiners.
  • 24/7 Trading: In addition to brokerage access, $GLDY is available for secondary trading around the clock on the Solana-based decentralized exchange Orca.

"Putting $GLDY into a brokerage account is a major step... because it meets traditional investors exactly where they already are," said Henry McPhie, Co-Founder and CEO of Streamex, in the company's announcement.

Context and Future Roadmap

This initiative is part of a broader trend of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs) to enhance their liquidity and accessibility. While the current brokerage offering is limited to verified accredited investors under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D, Streamex stated it plans to launch a retail-focused version of its digital gold product in the future.

The company noted that this future retail product would be accessible to a wider audience and is expected to trade on several decentralized exchanges. Streamex aims to make owning gold as straightforward as holding any mainstream financial asset, whether through a broker or a self-custodial digital wallet.
