Rocket Lab Stock Jumps on New Neutron Contract and Softer Inflation Data

Summary
Shares of the space company surged after securing a new launch agreement for its next-generation Neutron rocket and as a favorable U.S. inflation report boosted risk appetite across the market.
Shares of Rocket Lab (RKLB) climbed more than 5% in morning trading, recovering from a pullback in the prior session, as investors reacted to a new launch contract and a favorable macroeconomic report.
Neutron Contract and Institutional Support
The primary catalyst for the rally was a newly reported dedicated launch contract with Canadian telecom operator Kepler Communications for Rocket Lab’s upcoming Neutron rocket. This agreement adds to the launch manifest for the medium-lift vehicle, which is being developed to compete with established rockets like SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
Investor sentiment was also bolstered by signs of continued institutional interest. According to a report from Investing.com:
- ARK Invest has continued to purchase Rocket Lab shares in recent sessions.
- Cantor Fitzgerald reiterated its "Overweight" rating and a $122 price target, calling the Neutron’s first flight the stock's most important near-term catalyst.
Favorable Macroeconomic Backdrop
AdBroader market dynamics provided a significant tailwind for the stock. The latest U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data for August came in below economists' expectations, reinforcing the view that the Federal Reserve is likely to hold interest rates steady.
This news sent Treasury yields lower and lifted risk appetite, particularly for high-growth stocks. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite outperformed other major indices, creating a supportive environment for high-beta names like Rocket Lab.
Context and Outlook
The gains come as a previous source of uncertainty for the company has been resolved. Rocket Lab's acquisition of Iridium is now fully financed via a $1.94 billion equity offering and has been approved by approximately 99.6% of Iridium shareholders, removing a significant overhang from the stock.
While the stock surged to $73.23, it remains well below its 52-week high of $151. Investors are now focused on the anticipated inaugural launch of the Neutron rocket, which is expected in the fourth quarter.
