Maersk Stock Hits 52-Week High After Analyst Upgrade to 'Buy'

Summary
Shares of the Danish shipping giant surged after Fearnley Securities raised its rating, citing strong earnings, an increased full-year outlook, and strategic fleet expansion.
Shares of A.P. Moller - Maersk A/S (MAERSKa) surged 4.1% to DKK 22,600 on Tuesday, hitting a new 52-week high after an analyst upgrade provided a fresh catalyst for the shipping giant.
Analyst Upgrade Triggers Rally
The immediate driver for the stock's move was an upgrade from Fearnley Securities, which raised its rating on Maersk from 'Hold' to 'Buy'. The firm assigned a new price target of DKK 26,000, representing significant upside from the previous trading levels.
Following the morning call, Maersk's stock climbed to a new 52-week peak of DKK 22,660. The upgrade extended a rally that had already seen the company's shares gain nearly 60% year-to-date before Tuesday's session.
Strong Fundamentals Underpin Bullish Case
The analyst action follows a period of strong operational performance by Maersk. The company had previously reported robust second-quarter 2026 results, including:
Ad- EBITDA of $3.0 billion
- EBIT of $1.6 billion
Fueled by higher ocean spot freight rates and healthy cargo volumes, Maersk subsequently raised its full-year 2026 EBITDA guidance to a range of $10–12.5 billion, up from a prior forecast of $8–10 billion. The company has also committed to a major fleet expansion with orders for 26 large container vessels and secured a credit facility of approximately $5 billion to fund future growth.
Favorable Sector Backdrop
Maersk's positive momentum is supported by a favorable industry environment. Container freight rate indices have been running sharply above year-ago levels, benefiting Maersk and its key competitors. This sector-wide strength, combined with a constructive tone in global equity markets, created a receptive backdrop for the bullish re-rating and helped propel the stock to its new high.
