At the close of trading in Madrid, the IBEX 35 lost 0.45% to hit a new one-month low. According to market data, the downturn was primarily driven by weakness in the Financial Services & Real Estate, Telecoms & IT, and Building & Construction sectors.

Market breadth on the Madrid Stock Exchange was negative, underscoring the bearish sentiment. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 110 to 74, with an additional 23 issues ending the session unchanged.

The day's worst performers on the index included several prominent names. Real estate investment trust Merlin Properties SA (BME:MRL) was the biggest laggard, falling 2.61%.

Broader Market Context

The decline in Spanish equities came as commodity markets posted gains. Crude oil for November delivery rose 2.24% to $91.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract climbed 2.76%. Gold futures for December delivery were also up slightly.

In foreign exchange markets, major currency pairs saw little movement, with the EUR/USD pair nearly unchanged. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, ticked up 0.04%.
