The Frankfurt market showed a mixed picture at the close. While the blue-chip DAX was almost stationary, other major indices posted modest losses, with the MDAX index of mid-cap companies declining 0.22% and the tech-focused TecDAX index slipping 0.02%, according to market data.
Market breadth was negative, as falling stocks on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange outnumbered advancers by 358 to 330, with 54 issues ending unchanged. In a sign of calming investor sentiment, the DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of options, fell 5.67% to 16.88.
Key Stock Movers
Healthcare and chemical companies were the session's standout performers on the DAX. In contrast, automotive and defense stocks faced selling pressure.
Ad- Top Performers: Merck KGaA led the gains, rising 2.56%. It was followed by Siemens Healthineers AG, which added 2.33%, and Fresenius Medical Care, up 1.71%.
- Worst Performers: Porsche Automobil Holding SE was the biggest decliner, falling 2.02% to an all-time low. Rheinmetall AG dropped 1.64%, and Deutsche Telekom AG lost 1.22%.
Broader Markets
In commodities, energy prices climbed while precious metals fell. Crude oil for November delivery rose to trade at $94.70 a barrel. Meanwhile, Gold Futures for December delivery saw a significant drop of 3.83%.
In currency markets, the euro was relatively stable against major pairs, while the US Dollar Index Futures edged higher by 0.23%, indicating modest strength for the greenback.
