Enerflex Shares Surge on Major Data Center Power Contract and Asset Sale

Summary
The company's stock jumped after it secured a contract to supply 450 megawatts of power to a data center developer and announced the sale of its Asia Pacific operations, signaling a strategic focus on high-growth markets.
Enerflex (EFX) shares surged 12.3% in pre-market trading after the company announced a significant power generation contract and a strategic divestiture of its Asia Pacific business. The dual announcements provide the energy infrastructure firm with a major growth catalyst tied to the artificial intelligence boom and a more focused corporate structure.
Data Center Deal and Divestiture
Enerflex revealed it won a major contract to design, fabricate, and assemble approximately 450 megawatts of natural gas-fired power generation units. The customer is a North American data center developer, and the units will provide "behind-the-meter" power, meaning they will generate electricity on-site rather than relying on the traditional power grid.
Deliveries for the project are scheduled to begin in 2027 and conclude in 2028. CEO Paul Mahoney noted that "the demand for reliable, prime power that does not require grid connection, supporting Artificial Intelligence and digital infrastructure development continues to grow," according to the company's announcement.
Concurrently, Enerflex confirmed it has completed the sale of the majority of its Asia Pacific operations to INNIO Group. The company stated this move will allow it to concentrate capital and management resources on its core markets in North America, Latin America, and the Middle East.
AdStrategic Outlook and Investment
The contract positions Enerflex to capitalize on the rapidly growing energy needs of the data center industry, which is expanding to support AI applications. To support this and other anticipated projects, the company's board authorized approximately $85 million in investments for facilities and capabilities, expected to be deployed through 2027.
This capital allocation signals management's confidence in a durable pipeline for large-scale power generation projects. The combination of securing a landmark contract in a high-growth sector and streamlining its global operations through the asset sale provided investors with both near-term revenue visibility and long-term strategic clarity, prompting the sharp rise in its stock price.
