Bitcoin Reclaims $80,000 as ETF Inflows Surge by $433 Million

Summary
Bitcoin's price climbed back above the $80,000 mark over the weekend, buoyed by a significant resurgence in institutional demand as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded over $433 million in net inflows on Friday.
Bitcoin stabilized above the $80,000 level over the weekend after a volatile week, supported by a strong resurgence in capital flows into U.S. spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The renewed institutional buying suggests investor confidence is returning after the cryptocurrency briefly dipped to around $76,400 earlier in the week.
As of 1:07 AM ET on Sunday, Bitcoin was trading at approximately $80,479.4, marking a slight gain for the day, according to data from Investing.com.
ETF Inflows Signal Renewed Demand
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted a combined $433 million in net inflows on Friday, capping a turbulent week on a strong note. This wave of investment indicates that institutional buyers are re-entering the market following the recent price fluctuations.
Key inflows on Friday included:
- Fidelity (FBTC): Led the pack with $310.7 million in net inflows.
- BlackRock (IBIT): Saw significant demand with $108.4 million in net inflows.
- Bitwise (BITB): Recorded $9.69 million in inflows.
Smaller net inflows were also reported for funds from VanEck (HODL) and the Ark/21Shares (ARKB) venture. Total trading volume for the ETFs reached $4.67 billion on Friday, pushing their combined net assets to $102.53 billion.
AdBroader Market and Macroeconomic Pressures
Institutional interest extended beyond Bitcoin, with Ethereum ETFs seeing $143.8 million in net inflows and Solana-related funds attracting $47.62 million. This broader buying activity suggests a wider institutional appetite for digital assets. However, the wider cryptocurrency market remained subdued over the weekend, with most major altcoins like Ethereum, XRP, and Solana posting modest losses.
Persistent macroeconomic factors, including rising government bond yields, inflation concerns, and geopolitical tensions, continue to contribute to volatility across risk assets. Investor Robert Kiyosaki cited rising debt and global instability as reasons for his continued preference for assets like Bitcoin, gold, and silver.
Regulatory and Industry Outlook
The regulatory environment in the U.S. remains a key area of focus for the industry. On September 15, the U.S. Senate did not advance the CLARITY Act, leaving the path for comprehensive crypto legislation uncertain.
However, some industry leaders believe progress is not contingent on new laws. MicroStrategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor argued that the crypto sector can continue its expansion within the existing regulatory framework, highlighting opportunities in bank custody, Bitcoin-backed loans, and stablecoins to drive broader adoption.
