Background

ASM International on Tuesday issued a fourth-quarter revenue forecast that surpassed analyst expectations and announced it is on track to achieve its 2030 sales target three years ahead of schedule, propelled by strong investments in artificial intelligence-related capacity.

Upgraded Financial Outlook

The Dutch chip equipment manufacturer projects its fourth-quarter revenue will be €1.23 billion ($1.37 billion), with a variance of plus or minus 5%. This figure exceeds the average analyst forecast of €1.18 billion, according to a poll by LSEG.

Looking further ahead, the company now expects to surpass €5.7 billion in revenue at constant currencies in 2027, reaching a sales target originally set for 2030. This accelerated timeline puts it well ahead of the LSEG analyst consensus, which had projected 2027 revenue of €5.41 billion.

One analyst, Michael Roeg of Degroof Petercam, characterized the results as a "triple beat," citing the company's stronger-than-expected third-quarter revenue, fourth-quarter outlook, and revised annual guidance.

AI Demand Drives Performance

ASM International attributed its strong performance to the ongoing boom in AI, which has become the primary growth driver for the semiconductor industry. The company's third-quarter sales came in at €1.16 billion, topping analyst estimates of €1.10 billion.

Investors have been closely monitoring earnings reports from chip-related companies for evidence that customer demand is keeping pace with the massive capital investments being made in AI infrastructure. ASM's results provide a positive data point for the sector.

ASM specializes in machines that perform atomic layer deposition (ALD), a critical process for manufacturing the most advanced chips. This technique builds films one atomic layer at a time, enabling the creation of complex, high-performance semiconductors required for AI applications.
