Asian Chip and AI Stocks Surge on Anthropic IPO Filing

Asian technology stocks, particularly chipmakers and firms linked to artificial intelligence, posted significant gains on Tuesday after U.S.-based AI developer Anthropic filed for an initial public offering, reviving investor optimism in the sector.
Widespread Gains in Asian Tech
The rally was broad-based across the region's key technology hubs. According to market data, major players in South Korea, Japan, and China saw their shares climb during the session.
- South Korea: Memory chip giant SK Hynix Inc. surged 6%, while industry leader Samsung Electronics gained 4%.
- Japan: Semiconductor testing equipment maker Advantest Corp. jumped nearly 10%, and chip manufacturing equipment firm Tokyo Electron rose 3%. Prominent technology investor SoftBank Group climbed more than 6%.
- China: In Hong Kong trading, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) added 0.8%, while Hua Hong Semiconductor increased by over 2%.
Anthropic Filing Renews AI Optimism
The positive sentiment was directly linked to the IPO filing from Anthropic, the developer behind the Claude chatbot. The company's filing on Monday reportedly disclosed rapid revenue growth alongside steep operating losses, a dynamic common among high-growth technology firms.
AdFor investors, the filing underscores both the immense commercial potential of generative AI and the substantial capital investment required to develop advanced models. The move by a major AI player to go public has reinvigorated market enthusiasm for the entire AI supply chain, from chip designers to equipment manufacturers.
US Markets Provide Positive Lead
The gains in Asia followed a strong overnight session on Wall Street for AI-related stocks. Chip designer Nvidia rose 2.4% and Micron Technology climbed 3%, setting a positive tone for global markets.
Market participants are now looking ahead to earnings reports from major U.S. technology companies this week. These results will be closely scrutinized for evidence that significant investments in AI are beginning to translate into sustainable revenue and profit growth.
