Advantest Surges Over 9% as Anthropic IPO Filing Boosts AI Chip Stocks

Shares of Japanese semiconductor testing equipment maker Advantest (TYO:6857) surged on Tuesday, lifted by a broad rally in chip-related stocks after a U.S. regulatory filing by AI firm Anthropic revealed explosive revenue growth and reignited investor confidence in the artificial intelligence sector.
AI Optimism Fuels Semiconductor Rally
The primary driver for the rally was the IPO prospectus filed by AI company Anthropic on Monday, which disclosed that its revenue had grown approximately 100-fold over two years. According to Investing.com, this disclosure significantly eased investor concerns about the commercial viability of large-scale AI investments.
The positive sentiment propelled the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) to a 2.8% gain on Monday, its largest single-session advance in weeks. The momentum carried over into Asian trading, benefiting Advantest and other semiconductor-linked equities across the region.
Advantest Rebounds from Oversold Conditions
Advantest's stock climbed 9.5% to close at ¥34,030 on Tuesday. The sharp rebound followed a three-session selloff that had left the shares in technically oversold territory, making them prime for a recovery once market sentiment turned positive.
AdDuring the recent downturn, Advantest was among the hardest-hit names on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. On October 26 alone, losses from Advantest and its peer Tokyo Electron were responsible for more than 420 points of the Nikkei 225's decline.
Broader Market Lift and Upcoming Earnings
The positive sentiment lifted regional markets, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rising approximately 1.9% to reverse its three-day losing streak. The recovery was even more pronounced in South Korea, where the KOSPI index surged more than 4% as local chip giants also rebounded sharply.
Investors are also looking ahead to Advantest’s second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, scheduled for release on October 28. Expectations remain elevated following a strong prior quarter that delivered 39.3% revenue growth and a 53.3% increase in operating profit.
